This query letter resulted in more than ten requests and seven different offers for her debut novel, THE TRUTH ABOUT TWO-SHOES. Nikki signed a contract with agent Carrie Howland of the Donadio & Olson Literary Agency, a ninja agent who found Nikki’s query through #pitchwars on twitter. She is currently working through final revisions before it is pitched to publishers.
Dear Ms. Carrie Howland:
Thank you so much for messaging me on Twitter about your interest in my young adult contemporary, THE TRUTH ABOUT TWO-SHOES, a FREAKS AND GEEKS meets SAVED! type story complete at 78,000 words.
Sixteen-year-old Ellie knows what everyone’s saying about her. She also knows it’s not true. Being the pregnant daughter of a Mississippi pastor has been social suicide—she’s had to quit color guard, and so many words have been scrawled across her locker that she no longer wipes them off. Exiled by her once-perfect Christian friends and labeled the embarrassment of her crumbling family, Ellie navigates an already complicated junior year with the only three people not judging her: some weirdo called Freeble, a rebellious hothead with great hair, and a thrill-seeking slacker chick hell-bent on plotting revenge against the guy responsible for knocking Ellie up.
But more than judgment hovers over the former goodie-two-shoes now that the “goodie” is gone from her nickname. Ellie struggles to conceal the truth surrounding her pregnancy—especially because she doesn’t know all the details herself. The more she runs from the truth, the closer she gets to letting it define her. But when she faces it head on, she realizes not all is as it seems regarding friendship, faith, and most of all, herself.

I have an affinity for balloon sculpting, baking cheesecake, and writing for six hours straight by accident without getting divorced.
Thank you for your consideration. I have included the first three chapters and a synopsis in the body of this email, as directed by the Donadio & Olson agency site. Please let me know if you would like me to include anything else. I look forward to hearing from you.
