Kris started querying in 2010 and after 150 queries, and three years later, this query letter resulted in a contract with Kathleen Rushall from Marsal Lyon Literary Agency for THE SWEET SPOT, which is currently on submission. She also has another novel, ANY WAY YOU SLICE IT, that is being published by Bloomsbury Spark in April 2015.

Dear Kathleen,

Thank you for your interest in THE SWEET SPOT. As requested, the first two chapters are attached.

With the family golf course on the verge of bankruptcy, fifteen-year-old Kate Anderson needs to win the Junior State Championship to draw the crowds back. Being the first girl to win the golf tournament means more than bragging rights or a college scholarship. The gigantic media blitz that comes with it is the real prize her family desperately needs.

But golf is a game of focus and Kate’s distractions are mounting by the day: the hotshot bully, a cute British exchange student her dad hires for the summer, and her growing crush on her best friend Scott.

When vandals burn part of the golf course and the cops find the “smoking blowtorch” in Scott’s car, Kate’s world goes up in flames. First Scott withdraws from her and then she finds out the now-damaged course might lose the prestige of hosting the Championship. She suspects her friends, stakes out the bad guy, and gets her hands dirty to prove Scott’s innocence and guarantee the course is repaired in time. But it still might not be enough if she can’t play to win.

My publishing credentials include fourteen books for the elementary school library market with both Capstone Press and Abdo Publishing, including Ancient Egyptian Myths (Capstone) in January 2012. Thank you for your time and consideration. Please let me know if I can provide additional information. I look forward to hearing from you.
