This query letter resulted in a contract with literary agent Tracey Adams at Adams Literary and a publishing contract with SCHOLASTIC (for a middle grade series) and HarperCollins (for a young adult series).
I loved meeting and talking with you at the Silvery Moon party at the SCBWI L.A. conference last month, and I was so pleased when you gave me your business card to contact you since I’d been waiting for an opportunity to query you. I know many of your clients (Coleen Paratore, Vaunda Nelson) and I also chatted with Stacy DeKeyser about your agency when I got home from Los Angeles.
I’d love to send you my MG novel, The Healing Spell, set in the bayous of Louisiana about a girl coping with her secret guilt over her Mother’s coma. Janine O’Malley at FSG has seen the novel twice and asked to see it a third time if I did a few more changes. I’m now finished with the revision and would like to sub the manuscript to her again, but I’d prefer the book to be represented by an agent and I’d really love to work with you.
The evening we met I also mentioned an edgy historical YA I’m finishing up calledSecret Rites of the Goddess about the roots of belly dance and goddess temple worship set in the 1700’s BC. Confession: amateur belly dancer here! A short synopsis is below.
I’ve had three published novels so far, the latest a time travel historical with Knopf called The Last Snake Runner as well as dozens of stories in various magazines, including Cricket.
Thank you so much for your interest in my work and I have fingers crossed that we’ll be a match!
