This query letter resulted in a contract with Rachel Brooks with the L. Perkins Agency. COLD SUMMER is currently going through final revisions before being pitched to publishing companies and is a book I can’t wait to get my hands on.
Today, he’s a dropout with no future.
Tomorrow, he’s a solider in World War II.
He is a time traveler, and it will be the death of him.
Kale Jackson has spent years trying to be normal and control his ability, but he’s beginning to give up. One week he lives in 1943, where he watches his friends die, and the next he’s back in the present, where he’s a disappointment to his father and his only lasting friend.
Kale knows he needs change but he doesn’t know how, and he can’t hide the truth from his family forever—not when he’s suffering from PTSD and can barely hide his battle wounds from the past. Every day it becomes harder to sleep through the night, and every day he continues to hurt the people he loves, including the girl next door. The girl he’s known his whole life and never been honest with.
But something haunts Kale more than anything else—his own death. It’s only a date in the past, one he will soon live because history has already been written. If he doesn’t learn to control his unwanted ability soon, he won’t have the chance to prove history wrong.
COLD SUMMER is a YA science fiction novel complete at 98,000 words, told in duel point of views. Three of my novels have been a top pick on Harper Collins’ Inkpop Writing Community in 2010 and 2011. The first five pages are pasted below. Thank you for your time and consideration.
